2009年歐洲議會選舉於2009年6月4日至7日在歐盟的27個成員國中舉行。[1][2] 本屆歐洲議會由超過5億的歐盟選民，選舉出736席歐洲議會議員 (MEPs)及18席觀察議員（"virtual MEPs"）。[3] ，這屆選舉是歷史上最大的一次跨國選舉。

概況
主要的議會席次是在6月7日選舉產生，不過因為各國之間選舉投票規定和習慣的不同，因此選舉投票日進行了四天。
6月4日 星期四：聯合王國（包括直布羅陀）、荷蘭
6月5日 星期五：愛爾蘭、捷克 (第一天)
6月6日 星期六：塞浦路斯、法國（法國海外行省部分[4]）、義大利 （第一天）、拉脫維亞、馬耳他、斯洛伐克、捷克 （第二天）
6月7日 星期日：奧地利、比利時、保加利亞、德國、丹麥、西班牙、愛沙尼亞、芬蘭、法國、希臘、匈牙利、義大利 （第二天）、立陶宛、盧森堡、波蘭、[5]葡萄牙、羅馬尼亞、斯洛維尼亞、瑞典
有幾個歐盟成員國也藉這次歐洲議會選舉同時舉行其他選舉投票：盧森堡舉行國會改選；拉脫維亞舉行地方政府選舉[6] ；聯合王國部分地區舉行地方選舉[7] ；德國部分地區、義大利及馬耳他地方議會選舉；愛爾蘭地方選舉[8] (兩場中期選舉在南都伯林及中央都伯林)；比利時區域選舉。而丹麥則舉行一項公投，來表決是否給予女性同等權利擁有長子繼承權。
羅馬尼亞與保加利亞是首度與其他歐盟成員國家一同參與歐洲議會選舉，兩國在2007年加入歐盟時，曾個別舉辦過歐洲議會議員的選舉。
投票
2009年歐洲議會選舉各成員國投票率，顯示除了比利時外，其他國家的投票率均偏低。
根據投票結果已經確定的90%的席次情形：人民黨265席、社會黨195席、自民黨95席、GUE–NGL40席、綠黨35席、UEN35席。目前尚有70席議員尚未產生，不過一般預期極右派和反歐盟政黨能增加20席的空間，反之獨立派民主黨的席次則會消退。[9]
